Florida’s clerks are warning that the new budget in front of the Legislature could lead to 900 layoffs statewide, the Associated Press reports. The clerks learned last week their budget is being reduced by more than $30 million. A final vote on the matter is scheduled for today, the last day of the legislative session. Karen Rushing, legislative chair of the Florida Association of Court Clerks and Comptrollers, has lobbied furiously since late last week to reverse or mitigate the damage. Clerks in Florida’s 67 counties are expected to assemble Wednesday [March 14] in Tampa to come to a consensus on how to administer the cuts and to make them as uniform as possible, she said.
