The editorial states: “A careless misstep by three Florida Supreme Court justices has sent them stumbling into a political ditch, where Gov. Rick Scott and a conservative legal group are holding shovels hoping to bury them. . . . Should judges — particularly Supreme Court justices — be held to a higher standard on the law? Yes. But in this case, the severity of the penalty outweighs the violation of the statute. [State Attorney Willie] Meggs exercised proper prosecutorial discretion in declining to file charges. . . .
