Martin County Judge Hershey Stepping Down At The End Of August

After more than 25 years on the bench, Martin County Judge Stewart Hershey will retire at the end of August. Hershey, who will turn 64 this summer, could serve until age 70, but said he has decided to step down so he and his wife, Sue, can “travel as much as possible.” Sue Hershey, a Martin County School Board member since 1990, has announced she will not seek re-election when her term expires in 2014. The judge’s current term, his third six-year term after three four-year terms, does not expire until 2017. He was opposed for re-election only once. The 19th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission will interview 11 applicants to succeed Hershey on July 13 and submit three to six names to Gov. Rick Scott, who will make the appointment, commission Chairman Tom Bakkedahl said.  (Read Full Article Here)
