My Mother Always Did It

There's a story about a woman who never cooked a ham without slicing off one end. Her daughter once asked her why she did that. The mother said, "I never really thought about it. My mother always did it, and so I thought it was the right way." The next time the daughter saw her grandmother she asked her. "Granny, why did you always cut the end off a ham before you cooked it?"
