Jessica brings over 17 years experience to the office of Douglas R. Beam, P.A. Prior to moving to Florida, Jessica practiced in Kansas City for ten years and eventually opened her own firm, The Travis Law Firm, LLC. In Kansas City, Jessica focused on criminal defense and appellate work. She helped clients facing charges ranging from DUI to Murder and obtained jury trial acquittals, dismissals and lesser charges. Jessica also successfully wrote and argued appeals and other post-conviction motions in front of the Kansas Supreme Court and the Federal Tenth Circuit. When life took Jessica and her husband to Florida, she was able to continue representing those accused of serious felonies while working for the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office in Brevard County, Florida before joining the team at Douglas R. Beam, P.A.
Jessica is experienced in representing criminal defendants at the state and federal levels from pre-charging through appeal: mitigation or avoidance of charges, competency and insanity, deposition practice, motion research, writing and argument, jury and bench trials, sentencing objections and mitigation, violations of probation, post-conviction motions for relieve including ineffective assistance of counsel and appeals. Jessica has represented those accused with allegations of: Murder & homicide (all levels), Kidnapping, Drugs (all levels – state and federal), Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Theft, Forgery, Securities Fraud, Rape, Lewd & Lascivious, pornography charges, DUI and all levels of misdemeanors. Jessica has also represented those navigating their way through administrative hearings in attempts to keep their driver’s license or a professional license.
Jessica believes in continuing to educate herself so that she can better serve her clients. She has completed The National Criminal Defense College (NCDC), The NCDC Advanced Cross-Examination Seminar, forensic science seminars and various others focused on defending high-level felony accusations. Jessica has recently attended the American Association for Justice’s prestigious Workhorse seminar focusing on representing injured civil plaintiffs.
Jessica was previously named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers magazine and in Kansas City was an officer in the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, a member of the Earl O’Connor Inn of Court and a defense correspondent for Fox 4 News, Kansas City. In Florida, Jessica is a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Brevard County Bar Association, the Brevard County Association of Women’s Lawyers and American Association for Justice. Jessica is admitted to the Kansas, Missouri and Florida bars as well as the Middle District of Florida.
